Bill Fairley Scholarship in Anthropology
Awarded to an outstanding third year student in a Major or Specialist program in anthropology or one of its sub-fields (archaeology, linguistic and semiotic anthropology, physical anthropology, or social anthropology). Students are automatically nominated for this award if they meet the eligibility criteria.
Sir Daniel Wilson Award
Awarded to a third year undergraduate student in a Major or Specialist program in Anthropology or one of its sub-fields (biological, archaeology, linguistic and semiotic anthropology, or social-cultural anthropology). Financial need must be considered, academic merit will also be considered. Students are automatically nominated for this award if they meet the eligibility criteria.
Professor Forst Fuller Biological Anthropology Scholarship
Awarded to full-time, undergraduate student(s) enrolled in the Anthropology Major (Evolutionary). The recipient will be a top student entering 4th year, selected on the basis of academic excellence. The student will be evaluated by their achievements in 3rd year courses and other pertinent areas. Students are automatically nominated for this award if they meet the eligibility criteria.
Richard B. Lee Award
This award is given to the most outstanding student essay in critical Anthropology written in an St. George Anthropology or Archaeology course during the 2023-24 academic year, in any sub-field. The student must be a St. George student.
Application Method: You must submit an ungraded copy of your essay with a recommendation letter from your professor by Friday, January 5, 2024 for F courses. For Y and S courses, the deadline is Friday, May 10, 2024. This award is awarded once a year. There are two deadlines to ensure that we collect nominations from all courses, particularly F courses.
The approximate value of this award is $500 (values may vary from year to year).

Anthropology Teaching Assistant of the Year
The Department of Anthropology would like to recognize an outstanding Teaching Assistant for 2023-24 (this includes nominations from the Summer 2023 session). We welcome nominations from faculty, course instructors, graduate/undergraduate students and staff. The recipient will receive a $500 award. The nomination deadline is June 14, 2024.
General criteria/eligibility:
Teaching Assistants in CUPE 3902 Unit 1 at any campus (St. George, UTM, UTSC) who have performed TA duties for the Department of Anthropology between May 1, 2023 and April 30, 2024 and who:
- engage undergraduate students with enthusiasm and provide meaningful feedback through excellent communication skills
- demonstrate creativity and innovation in the classroom
- demonstrate good organizational methods and submit grades in a timely fashion
- are responsible and dependable
