In the Heart of Conflict: Willowbank National Historic Site
OAS Toronto Chapter meeting, 7:30pm, AP 246, 19 Russell St.
Although the house that now stands as a focal point to the Willowbank National Historic Site in Queenston, Ontario, was built in 1836, the larger property has significant archaeological deposits demonstrating 9,000 years of history. Rich in Aboriginal history and located in the centre of fierce War of 1812 skirmishes, the property richly deserves its National Historic status. Over 170 years later, the property found itself in conflict again and the result has become one of the great success stories for Ontario heritage. This talk will examine the property’s role during the War of 1812 and its continuing commemoration and contributions to its community and beyond.
